A message from Pastor Kris
We have a new update of the Through the Word app and I’m excited to show you some of the cool new features. Yes, change can be a little unsettling, but trust me, this is a good one. So, let’s take a look!
Bible View and Audio Player in One
One of the biggest changes you’ll notice is the audio player. We’ve combined the audio and Bible passage into one view, making it easy for you to listen and read along. You can scroll through the Bible up top, while controlling the audio at the bottom. This way, the Bible remains the central focus of your daily experience.
Audio Player Menu
You’ll now notice a menu below the audio player. To see it, just place your finger anywhere on the audio player, and drag it up. You’ll see all of today’s audio, including the announcement, audio guide, and audio Bible, as well as the favorite and share icons. By the way, please try sharing! Now is the perfect time to invite friends to the Holy Week plan for an unforgettable shared 8-day experience.
Change Listening Order
Check out the gear icon for settings. You’re going to love this feature because you can now change the listening order for each day. Put the audio Bible first or even listen to the Bible before and after the guide. And just above the gear icon, those little bars will tell you which audio portion you’re currently on. That’s Bible view!
Watch the Demo & Try out the App!
To exit back to your Plan View, simply grab the top bar or arrow and drag it down. It’s all intuitive, so feel free to explore. We’ve also posted a video demo below to help you get started. I hope you love the new update as much as we do. Huge thanks to our tech team (shout out to Zach & Brian!) for all their hard work and to all of you who pray and give to keep us moving forward.
So, what’s coming next? More new content! But for now, let’s focus on the Word. Open the Through the Word app and let us know what you think! (The comments section on this post is now closed, but you can submit a message via our contact page).

Hi I have been enjoying TTW over tha last couple of years. I try to listen on a regular basis, but there are days that I don’t get to it, and days where I will listen to 2 or 3 episodes.
In the past I knew where I had left off because the episodes I had listened to were highlighted in a darker print. So that way I could go to where I had left off and start there. Anyway with the new update, that feature is no longer visible and I don’t know exactly where I am in the plan. I have been doing the New Testament in a Year.
Is there something I’m missing or will I have to randomly listen and figure out where I’m at in the plan?
Thanks for all your work in growing Gods kingdom.
Your sister in Christ ,
Karen
Katie Burke says
Hello Karen, and thanks for your encouragement! Here are a few notes from our tech team that I believe addresses a few of the things you brought up:
>I’ve lost my history: It’s not lost, just temporarily hiding and we’re coaxing it back. If on April 1 (no fooling!) you still don’t see it after restarting the app, use the “Get help” button below to reach out for help.
>It’s not picking up where I left off: This is working imperfectly for some people, and we’re working quickly on a fix. If on April 1 (no fooling!) you still don’t see it after restarting the app, use the “Get help” button below to reach out for help.
>Mark as complete: With this update, instead of a “greyed out” audio guide track, completed tracks are now marked with a checkmark. In the Plan view, you can also press & hold any audio guide track and “mark as complete.”
Carl says
Most of it is great. However, it doesn’t do a good job of keeping up with where you are in a subscribed plan. When day X is finished, it continues to day X+1. Then, the next day it thinks day X+1 is complete and goes on to day X+2. It won’t let you back up either. May be pilot error. 🙂
Katie Burke says
Working on a fix for this exact issue, Carl! Thanks for your patience.
Howie says
Thank you for this amazing app! Great job with this update. One thing missing is the option to turn off continuous play or I must have missed it somewhere else.
May God continue to bless the entire team!
Katie Burke says
We will be bringing back the option to stop continuous play. Thanks for your patience, and stay tuned! 🙂
Mike Lockwood says
The update is awesome. Saves me from flipping back and forth.
However, since the update my profile history is gone. The portion that tracked bible completion is all back to zeros
Thanks for the app. Keeps me in a route to get in the word most days
Katie Burke says
Working on a fix for this exact issue, Mike! Thanks for your patience.
Che Sison says
I love the updated version! I hope you can add reading plans like Chronological Reading Plan, 1-Year Bible, 1-Year in NT…
Katie Burke says
We do have a New Testament in a Year Plan! Check it out here: https://app.throughtheword.org/new-testament-in-a-year
Sharon Schultz says
Thank you so much for the app in general, the updates and the teaching. Has been very enriching.
When I open the app in the morning, should it begin where I left off yesterday or at the very beginning of the plan?
Katie Burke says
It should pick up where you left off, but there’s a little bug preventing it. We’re fixing the bug and will have it working perfectly soon!
Joyce Taylor says
I LOVE TTW. My sweet Jesus seeker daughter introduced me. I’m old and untechnical but I’m enjoying the updates. I listen usually several times a day but especially at night when going to bed. Therefore my question. How do I get the plan to stop again after each chapter. I go to sleep and awake 10 chapters later😳
Katie Burke says
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could read/listen in your sleep?! Since that’s likely not true for you, we are bringing back the feature to STOP continuous play so you can sleep in peace. Stay tuned! 🙂
Dorothy says
I love reading along with whoever commentates. This app is great! I also love listening to the different commentators, such as, Pastors Sandy, Johnathan, Peyton, or Kris! You all have your own take on the Scriptures, and also give extra info, that I didn’t know! Thank you 😊
Marisol says
Just here to say thank you so much for this update!!!!!! You guys are amazing! Please continue to keep everything so simple! 😊
Darrel T. says
Really like the new setup and layout options. Used to be able to turn on and off the auto-play. Did this go away or did it move somewhere in settings where it’s not visible?
Katie Burke says
It’s coming back, Darrel — stay tuned! 🙂
Jenn Cox says
Love the latest update!
Robb says
Great updates yall. So appreciate this ministry and breaking down the scriptures inductively. Oh and the tumbler is amazing. Finally got it this week, once my wife remembered she has it in her truck for over 2 months! LOL. That was very kind of you.
Scott Christy says
Thank you for providing God’s word in an outstanding form. God Bless !
RB says
I’m so grateful for this TTW app. My children and I use it for our Bible Reading time during our homeschool day and they too enjoy it. We are gaining a better understanding of Scripture together. Thank you for all the effort you all put into this app from a genuine heart. I know there is a greater reward in heaven waiting for you! Cheering you on 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼!
Sylvia Nwoko says
Awesome!! I totally love the updates. I always preferred to listen to/read the bible passage before listening to the guide. Now I even have it better – I can listen to the bible, then the guide and the bible again. This is just great!! Well done TTW team!!
Brenda says
I was thrown off with this update. I couldn’t remember which chapter I was in. I knew I was in Romans however cannot see which chapters I have completed. Change is hard sometimes. I sure want to see which ones I’ve completed. Hope this will be fixed.
Katie Burke says
Sorry you’ve lost your history, Brenda! It’s not lost, just temporarily hiding and we’re coaxing it back. If on April 1 (no fooling!) you still don’t see it after restarting the app, use the “Get help” button below to reach out for help.
Kenyoisha Butler says
I love this!! Thank you
Mrs. Carmen Cobb says
My sister uses this app in the prayer group, and I love how you deep dive and explain the Bible. I have a better understanding of what I’ve been reading for years. Going to Church & Sunday School helps, but I believe (for me) it is how everyone breaks down the Bible in a way we can understand. I also like the comedy and playful banter that’s thrown in, it keeps it fresh. Between this Bible app, going to church and Sunday school, alone with my sister deep and having us deep dive on somethings, I believe I will become a better Christian. I wish there were a back and forth arrow so I can to the next chapter w/o going back to beginning when reading Bible Journeys. It would also be nice to be able to highlight and underline the text. Thanks so much for this amazing app. I want to thank the fabulous team that developed the app and the teachers for reading and explaining the Bible!!!
Deb says
I listen to scripture more than ever. I love the funny stories from Chris and feel like I’m not alone on my journey. Praying for all of you. It was also nice to see Zach as he explained the updates. I’m looking forward to reading along with the app as the verses are read.
Hazel Soloview says
Thanks SO much for this update. it’s exactly what I wanted! Just love to read and listen as well as be able to switch the order.
Frank Welter says
How can I set it so it stops after one daily segment and doesn’t keep playing?
Thanks
Katie Burke says
We’re bringing that option back in an app update soon. 🙂
Terry Staires says
Love the new update👏🙌👏 I used to use another very popular Bible app through my old church. And I came across one of your Bible study’s in it, and fell in love with your Bible plans. Then I thought when I’m I ready TTW Bible study’s through my church Bible app when I can go straight to your Bible app! Been here ever since! Love it some much that I share it often! Now I need to get in line with supporting🙏🙏 this Sunday we will be visiting a church for the first thing since the plandemic started.
Noah Johnson says
I really like the update. Good work tech team! My personal preference would be that the note taking feature could be brought back. When I was in high school, the SOAP section in notes was very influential for me to process what I was reading and hearing. This was 7-8 years ago. I do understand why it was taken out though. All in all, great job! To God be the glory!
Jonathan says
I’m loving the new look and layout! Thank you! Is there a way to make the Bible text larger?
Katie Burke says
Yes! You can adjust text size through your device’s display settings which will make the Bible text appear larger. More questions? Contact [email protected]. Thanks!
Diane Rowland says
L❤️VE TTW. Y’all have come such a long way in improving the App since I first discovered TTW several years ago. I continue to support you and refer others! I must’ve gone thru Revelation Explained at least 8 or 10 times. It’s my favorite and the BEST study on Revelation I’ve ever done
Continued Blessings to Pastor Kris and the entire TTW Team.
Michael Carpenter says
Love the app and can’t wait to try or the new version!
Kim M says
I love the new update and especially appreciate the feature that allows me to listen to Scripture first and then the guide. I just want to say a great big THANK YOU to the whole team for all you do! I have struggled with 24/7 migraine headaches for 17 years now, which makes reading the Bible impossible much of the time. God led me to the Through the Word daily audio guides during an especially dark season over a decade ago, and He has been using you to help me spend daily time in His Word ever since. I am so grateful for all you do to make these audio guides accessible, up to date, practical, balanced and compassionate. Thank you for continuing to seek Him in prayer and follow His leading in this ministry. Praying for you all today!
Lynnette says
I love that I can follow along with the Bible while listening to the guide. Loving the app. Thank you.
Shirley Mann says
Hi there thank you so much for the new change. I am 74 years old and trying to get used to this new technology but it good I’ve been with you all for quite a few years and I enjoy the Bible reading and understanding and thank you so much for the audio to understand how this new feature is working. Thank you all for what you do. I love reading, understanding and listening to you all. Have a great and blessed day to you all.
Jessica says
Loving the new update!! Being able to see the passage while listening is perfect!
Shawna Batson says
This is so great! Thank you so much! We love through the word! It’s my daily word time. I am an auditory learner and I’ve always struggled with just reading. This brings the word of God alive for me and adding the written text to this will also help! Thank you, Thank you! I can’t wait to show my daughter!!!
April D says
I love the updates. I have always gone to another APP to read the Bible first. Then to your APP for the guide and another reading of the Bible. Now I can do it all in your APP.
Bible – Guide – Bible
Thank you!
Grace Norcott says
I like the changes. It’s helpful to have the option to read/listen to the chapter first. After I listen to the teaching I tend to get distracted during the Bible reading. I also like that I can see both the teaching and reading because I always follow along with the Bible while I’m listening to the teaching. I do wish you would share what translation you’re teaching from. I get distracted trying to find that version and I can’t always find it. I really appreciate the app. It is such a blessing. What a wonderful way to learn what God is saying to us through his word.
Dale Melton says
Is there a way to stop it from automatically starting the next chapter?
Katie Burke says
Hi Dale! We have removed the option to stop continuous play which means pressing the “pause” button is required. If you’d like to see this feature return, we always welcome feedback at [email protected].
Carrie Mitchel says
Thank you for the information, I will send a request in. The option to choose if we want to auto-play or not is a crucial element. I have been so impressed with the app overall and am now supporting as well – I would gladly donate extra to get that back quickly.
Sharon Place says
It would be great to see the option to stop continuous return. Love the updates!
Katie Burke says
IT’S RETURNING! Stay tuned. 🙂
Meta Kennedy says
It would be nice to stop after the chapter. Yesterday I read chapter 29 and its jumped to chapter 30, so I paused it. Came back today and its automatically started chapter 31, so I had to go back, Scholl to chapter 30 to do today’s chapter. I made sure to hit pause, so we’ll see what tomorrow brings.
Katie Burke says
Thanks for your patience, Meta! We’re working on a fix for this too. 🙂
Annette Jones says
You guys are awesome. I love this app, loving the updates. Fab fab fab, thank you.
Sharon Place says
Love the new features! We have a group of ladies that are using ‘ Holy Week’ as a Bible study. This upgrade will make presenting so much easier. Thanks!
Gina Landry says
Looking forward to the new options. Thank you for this app. It has changed my life.
Catherine Allin Tollstrup says
Genius! I absolutely love the BGB option!
Rachel says
Thank you for all your hard work! I love TTW app!
Bryant Denise says
These new features are very nice. I especially appreciate the new voice of the audio feature. I haven’t been listening to the Bible audio because the previous voice sounded creepy to me. Perhaps it has to do with being from the generation of watching creepy Vincent Price movies as a child. The voice didn’t match up well with soothing scripture. Now listening is more pleasurable. Thank you.
C Smith says
The updates look nice! However, when looking for how to mark my day as completed, I mistakenly marked the plan as completed. How do I reverse this?
Katie Burke says
Great question, let’s look into that together! Please send your question to us at [email protected].
Samuel Ayodele says
Quite delighted that the focus is on the word which the Day Order amply demonstrates. Great job, well done. It makes giving to support the ministry a joyful and beneficial experience. God bless you all.
Angelique Victor says
I love the new and improved app! Congrats TTW Team! My favourite change is that I can now listen to the Bible verse, then the Guide and then the verse again 🙌🏻 It’s brilliant.
Sylvia says
Absolutely GREAT! PERFECT new tools.
TOOLS!! Yes, TOOLS!!! Cookies on the shelf, cookies on the shelf! I’m so excited about COOKIES ON THE SHELF!
THANK YOU!!!!!!!
Jeff Blackwood says
The way the chapters are presented are extremely help to me in understanding the Word.
The updated app however isn’t working on my phone. The Bible will not scroll thru the scripture so I can read along.
Katie Burke says
Hi Jeff! So sorry about that. This bug should now be fixed. Please try again!
Majona Mofokeng says
I love this new tool excellent work guys. I can never be distracted again.
Carrie Mitchel says
Zach, this is a great introduction to the new features, thank you! I am excited to check everything out. It looks really good.
Alexander Barlekamp says
I am SO glad you put the Bible/Audio Day Order option on there. It’s my personal preference to get what I can out of the scripture and THEN be educated – helping avoid too much anchoring bias. And then the option for Bible-guide-Bible??? Icing on the proverbial cake. Huge shoutout and love to the tech team!!!!
Jay Joseph says
I really like the updates. Thank you.
