TTW Tips

TTW BASICS – Helps and how-to’s for TTW’s features.

What is TTW?

What’s the app, and what’s a Bible audio guide?
Through the Word is a concise audio guide to the entire Bible, one chapter at a time. It’s also a reading and journaling app that will equip you to read the Bible, understand it, apply it, and make it a habit. All that in just minutes a day.

Daily Tips

Home Screen: Tips

The Home Screen is the heart of the app, the place where your journey begins each day. The home screen is where your subscribed plans land. It’s your own space to form your daily Bible habit. From the home screen you select your subscribed plans, see your progress and guide lists, read the Bible, and listen to the audio guide through the player. The home screen is where your journey is managed, and we plan to add a lot more functionality to it in the future! … This is also where you can unsubscribe from plans.

Guide Tips:

  • Which goes first – Bible or Audio Guide? It’s up to you! If you have trouble understanding, you’ll get more out of it by listening to the guide first so you can hear a clear explanation. But you may prefer to read the Word first for an unhindered first impression.
  • Choosing a Bible translation: TTW will soon be adding more options for Bible translation. When we do, we’ll post help on choosing the right one for you. The most important part is choosing an accurate translation that you will read and understand.

Guide FAQ

Can I share the audio guide? Not yet, but we’re working on it. For now, you can share the app. On iOS HERE or Google Play HERE

Can I move around the Bible from here? Yes. Just tap the browse button in the bottom left and you’ll find all plans. You can choose anything you’d like from the options.

Journey or Book:

How to choose a guide.

TTW wants to help you set a clear plan to read through the Bible. We call our reading plans guides because each one guides you chapter-by-chapter through part of the Bible. Our guides come in three varieties: Journeys, Books, and Topics & Extras, and you can find all of them from the home page by tapping “Browse” in the lower left.

  • 18 Journeys: Each journey takes on several complete Bible books in about 90 days. Our pastors carefully set out the books of the Bible to follow themes, balance Old and New Testaments, follow OT chronology, and guide you on a clear path.
  • 66 Books: For those wanting to choose their own path, you can sign up for one book at a time. You’ll get the same audio from the journeys, but more control on the order. Note that completing a book guide will not mark it complete in the journey.
  • Topics & Extras: (more coming soon) We’re adding more topical guides soon, so watch for those!

Guide Selection FAQ

Where do I start? The app starts you off with “TTW Intro” already set up, so start there and decide your next step after that. The 25-day Starter Journey gives you a grand tour of the Bible’s core themes and stories in 25 key chapters. But you can change or add plans anytime. We will be adding “suggested plans” soon!

Where do I find them? From your home page, just tap “Browse” in the bottom left. Then select Journey, Book, or Topics & Extras to see what’s available… You can even tap “New & Updated” for our freshest content.

Can I follow more than one? Yes! You can subscribe to one each for: morning and evening, family Bible time, small group, disciple a friend, etc. It’s all up to you.

Can I read the Bible and listen to audio guides without a plan? Yes! You can find every Bible chapter and every audio guide anytime. Just tap Browse on the home page, then tap any plan you are seeking. Audio guides are available for every chapter. However, a chapter will not be marked complete without subscribing to a guide.

Register:

How and why to create an account.

TTW allows you to register an account with us. It’s free, and it only takes a few seconds. We wouldn’t do this but it’s the only way to track and save your progress. With your account, you’ll be able to access your progress from any device, and (coming soon) even from the website. Also, no one will ever get your details or information… period… no small print… period! We might send you a few valuable emails a year, but you can always unsubscribe from those if you wish.

TTW 2.0 Users: Your existing account will work for TTW 3.0. Just log into the new app and the migration will move everything over!

QUESTIONS & ISSUES – Find answers or report a problem.

What if Something Doesn’t Work?

How to report a problem.

On a brand new app, there’s bound to be something out of place. We wanted to release the new app into the wild as soon as possible to work everything out. This is the most practical way to get real life feedback from our real users. However, we don’t want anything to get in the way of your Bible habit and time in the Word. If you ever have a problem we are here to help! Please just let us know and we will make sure we get back to you ASAP.

  • Always Improving: We keep working to make the app better. Let us know if you have a suggestion – help@throughtheword.org

ABOUT US

Who We Are:

Who’s behind this crazy idea?

TTW is run by a faithful team of missionaries and Bible teachers with a passion to reach the world through the Word. Kris Langham is TTW’s founder and lead teacher. Programming and app development is performed by Flatsmith. Our board of directors includes pastors, missionaries, and businessmen. But really, God is behind this, and He wants you to grow closer to Him through his Word. We are just here to provide a simple system where you can have a powerful daily walk with the Lord.

What We’re About:

TTW’s mission and vision.
Through the Word is a nonprofit ministry dedicated to equipping people around the world to read the Bible, understand it, apply it, and make it a habit. We provide simple yet powerful tools via web and mobile app that lead users on a journey to understand the entire Bible, one chapter at a time. TTW combines clear, balanced and relatable teaching with direct accessibility. Our purpose is God’s calling: to make disciples, equip the saints, and preach the word (Mat. 28:19, Eph. 4:12, 2 Tim 4:2).

“Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked.  “How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?”  – Acts 8:30b-31a

SOLID TEACHING.  For the average reader, understanding the Bible is not easy. But with just a little help from a good teacher, it is possible – and powerful. Through the Word connects inquisitive readers with excellent teachers. TTW Chapter Audio Guides provide a clear, concise and relatable guide through one Bible chapter in just 5 to 9 minutes. Our goal is to provide outstanding Audio Guides for every chapter in the Bible.

ACCESSIBLE TOOLS.  Through the Word creates free, innovative, and simple virtual solutions that allow anyone the opportunity to hear and understand the Word of God.  The TTW mobile app and website are intuitive tools for productive daily devotions. We believe that simplicity and accessibility are essentials for tools that readers will actually use.

PRACTICAL GUIDE. Through the Word is not an encyclopedia of study aids to store on a bookshelf or hard drive. Rather, TTW is more like a concise travel guide with a clear plan. Each day, TTW takes three basic steps through one Bible chapter: listen, read and journal.

No Fees & No Ads:

What does listener supported mean?
  • TTW is a free app, with no ads and no fees. And we intend to keep it free, with no strings (and no giving guilt trips) attached. Our mission is funded entirely by listeners who believe in our mission and give cheerfully. TTW is a registered non-profit charity in the USA, and all donations are tax-deductible. If you’d like to donate, use the donate button on the app menu, or go to throughtheword.org/donate for more info.

Statement of Faith:

Concise summary of what we believe.
If you are going to let us guide you through the Bible, you probably want to know just what we believe about it.  To put it very briefly, we believe what the Bible says about itself:

“All Scripture is breathed out by God, and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” (2nd Timothy 3:16).

In other words, we believe that the Bible is God’s own word, that it is true, and that it is powerful.  All of our doctrinal beliefs start there – in the Bible itself.

Below you will find a short summary of our beliefs on some key doctrines of the Christian faith.  But don’t take our word for it – read God’s Word for yourself! That’s what TTW is all about. We teach and explain the Word, but we want you to check it out on your own.  That being said, here is our brief Statement of Faith:

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative, inerrant Word of God (2 Tim. 3:16, 2 Pet. 1:21).

We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Gen 1:1, Matt 28:19, John 10:30).

We believe in the deity of Christ (John 10:33); His virgin birth (Isa. 7:14, Matt 1:23, Luke 1:35); His sinless life (Heb. 4:15, 7:26); His miracles (John 2:11); His vicarious and atoning death (1 Cor. 15:3, Eph. 1:7, Heb. 2:9); His resurrection (John 11:25, I Cor. 15:4); His ascension to the right hand of the Father (Mark 16:19); His personal return in power and glory (Acts 1:11, Revelation 19:11).

We believe in the absolute necessity of regeneration by the Holy Spirit for salvation because of the exceeding sinfulness of humanity; and that all are justified only by faith in the shed blood of Christ and that only by God’s grace, through faith alone, we are saved (John 3:16-19, 5:24, Rom. 3:23, 5:8-9, Eph. 2:8-10, Titus 3:5).

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation (John 5:28-29).

We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ (Rom. 8:9, 1 Cor. 12:12-13, Gal 3:26-28).

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a Godly Life (Rom. 8:13-14, I Cor. 3:16; 6:19-20, Eph. 4:30, 5:15).

What if you don’t believe what we believe?  If you don’t agree with us – that’s okay! You can still study with us through the Bible. Whether you disagree with us on a couple doctrines or on almost everything we say, we can still help you read and understand what the Bible says.  Hey – if God respects you enough to let you choose your own beliefs, then so do we. That doesn’t make you right and it doesn’t make us right; it just means we should respect each other. Whatever you believe, we are thoroughly convinced that God loves you, and for that reason, we love you too.  If you listen to TTW, our Statement of Faith is here to let you know where we’re coming from.
