Kris Langham Announces our Biggest App Upgrade in Years
Hey friends. Kris here with a big announcement! Through the Word 4.0 is here. It’s our biggest upgrade in years and the big new feature is Through the Word Together.
I am so excited for this. Check it out right there on the app. Open up any plan and look for the big bright orange “Start Together” button. That’s it! The app will guide you from there.
You guys have been asking for this — and we have been dreaming about this — for years.
With Through the Word Together you can invite your friends to start any plan with you. Or your family, buddy, kid, cousin. Your whole small group. Or get all your church small groups on it! You can have different groups on different plans, or go solo on one plan and together on another.
Pick any plan, tap “Start Together,” and share the link with anyone. If they’re on TTW, just share the link. If they’re not on TTW, just share the same link. When they accept, you’ll follow that same plan — same audio guides, but now you can share audio messages with your questions and insights — on each and every chapter. So cool!
Now if you’re not ready for a group yet, just take it for a test drive to see how it works. See below for answers to commonly asked questions. And submit your questions and feedback in the comments section. We’re here to help. Have fun!
Next big announcement coming soon. And that one comes with swag!

No, you cannot invite people to an existing plan. You need to start a new one and click the “Start Together” button. You can have both an individual plan and a group plan at the same time.

The playlist for each audio guide is located beneath the Bible text. To access it, simply swipe up on the player section at the bottom of the screen to reveal the playlist. Yes, you can choose your own schedule. Decide whether you want to read one chapter a day, just on weekdays, or follow a plan that suits your group’s needs. You’ll need to communicate the schedule to your group members, as there is no option to set a schedule within the plan. You can even do a group plan weekly or create separate groups for different plans.
10. Which plans are suitable for starting Together groups?
Journeys 1 and 2 are excellent starting points for groups, as they consist of 25 days of content, making it an ideal commitment for Together reading plans.

No, the primary format for sharing within the Together feature is audio. Given that TTW is designed around the audio experience, we believe you’ll find this format enriching and engaging for group discussions.

You have an amazing app and I use it daily. I also guide a neighborhood Bible study. I am excited to try the “together” option to stay in touch with friends and family that are not near me. I also would like the typing option when it becomes available . God bless, Sharon
Linda Montrose says
Well, Joel and I tried this but it’s confusing. When I recorded and sent it my recording had Joel’s name on it and his recording also had his name on it when it came to me sooo…?
Katie Burke says
That’s definitely a bug, Linda! Reach out to us at [email protected] so we can fix that with you.
Elizabeth says
Thank you for such a wonderful update. Hearing someones voice with others is better than a text. This world has lost track of that. Keep up the good work! Maybe consider having groups that we can join? Getting to know others that share the same journey.
Eue Partin says
Do the audio messages disappear when someone else comments? I noticed when my friend recorded her comment mine disappeared. We wanted to be able to listen to everyone’s comments. How do we do that?
Katie Burke says
If your audio messages are disappearing, that’s certainly not meant to happen and sounds like a bug we need to squash! If this issue persists, please do reach out to us at [email protected] with a description of what’s occurring, and we’ll get on top of it. Audio messages should be available for everyone in the group to listen to, so we want to make sure this gets fixed for you and your friend. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

First let me say that this app has been a game changer for me! I get so much more out of Gods word when I understand the context. Second, I really like the idea of being able to type a message as well, rather than doing just voice recordings, although that is a great option for some. I’ve invited someone to start a plan with me but they are introverted and I doubt that option will be utilized by them. Thanks for all you do there at TTW! God bless you all!
Nida Samuel says
Yes! I also wish there was an option for typing. Thank you!
Gary Brown says
Yes, agree. Text in addition to audio would be better.
Karen Nick says
I do wish we had the option of typing our responses as when I am doing my Bible study I wear head phones as my husband is usually watching tv or sleeping. Having to record my messages would either wake him up or make it hard for him to hear the tv.
Kathy Hedrick says
I love this idea. Thanks!
Pam says
Maybe consider making an option for typing your response. I like listening to you on audio and the Bible being read to me but I do not recording my own message. Please.
Katie Burke says
As an audio-focused app, we truly believe in the unique connection voice brings, but we always value your feedback—give voice messaging a try, it might surprise you!
Marc Reppermund says
Katie,
I love the ministry and the app. Has changed my life, and many of my friends and family. I do think the audio idea, while it makes sense, based on your mission, would be better to have the option to type and my guess is that you will relent and add that option. I am excited to see your response. I would start a group today, if typing was an option, but I don’t think the audio isn’t that appealing honestly, feel bad saying it. I would love to see someone use, or create a tool like Facebook’s messenger, or Slack, to have quicker, live interactions, instant messaging on scripture and those both allow for voice if you prefer. I know that is asking a lot. But please consider an instant messaging Group feature or integration, like Slack, Group me etc.
Katie Burke says
Absolutely, your feedback is invaluable to us. We understand the appeal of having a text option and we’re always considering ways to improve and adapt our features to serve our community best. While we can’t make any promises about adding text capabilities at this moment, please know that we truly appreciate your thoughts and the time you took to share them. Your passion for fostering group engagement around Scripture is a shared goal, and we’ll keep your suggestions in mind as we continue to develop the app.
Rick May says
I agree. You can compose a thought more coherently when writing and feeling the pressure to record audio. Anyway, I guess we’ll just have to see how it goes.
Maria Dominguez says
This is so cool!!!! Would you have this ap available in spanish?? I mentor spanish speaking women who want to know Jesus too.
Katie Burke says
We’re working on bringing TTW to our hermanas who speak Spanish; please pray for us as we embark on this exciting journey, ¡gracias!
Mandi Cesar says
I have loved my Through The World experience. It has given me a clear way to study the Bible through Journey one and two.
Not to mention, the marriage talks have made a world of difference for my husband and I, who have been married almost 23 years next week. So many conversations that have needed to happen over the years that are finally surfacing and enriching our relationship.
Katie Burke says
We’re overjoyed to hear how TTW has enriched your marriage and Bible study, sparking meaningful conversations as you celebrate 23 years together!
Stephanie L Sheridan says
I am so excited about this. Hopefully I can show my mom and brother as they want to do Bible studies together. California and Florida 🥰
Vicky Acosta says
It would be nice if when it’s read it would scroll up by itself for each passage, instead of us having to do it ourselves while trying to write as well ♥️♥️
Thank you for this totally awesome app… May God continue to put more awesome thoughts in your mind to make it even better.(don’t know if it can get any better)
Katie Burke says
Absolutely, that’s the exact convenience we aim for with audio messaging – hands-free and heart-full interaction!
